WHY (S)LOW FASHION?
Behind each picture you will find a selection of more or less terrifying information on the status quo of the fashion industry, which we came across in the course of our research (in German only, sorry!).
They drive us to do everything differently.
Read our MANIFESTO to find out about our values and goals.
We see our work between craft and industrial design. We think that everyday fashion has nothing to do with the romanticized image of the artistic fashion designer! This picture distorts expectations of the value of work and working as a fashion designer or designer for consumer goods in general. Fashion trends are harmful and have no actual value. Our task today and in the future is to create a new and honest aesthetic of sustainability. This means, for example, that the recycling of a product is already defined in the design process or that entire business models are reimagined..
Waste is laziness. We, as designers and manufacturers of clothing, have the duty to transform them from disosable consumer goods into durable and valuable goods and to put the health of the earth and all its inhabitants above everything else.
We make durable, timeless, never too tight, comfortable, durable, universally combinable everyday clothing. In the unlikely event that you no longer like it, you will surely find people around you who are happy to use it for some more time. Even in ten years.
With the motto „Contemporary Tailoring“ we offer pants and jackets, made in Berlin and made-to-measure on request. Our designs, specially adapted for you and with repair guarantee. You certainly don't throw something like that away, something like that has value. The blouse for 7.99 € (70% discount in the final sale) unfortunately does not. Simple psychology.
We use so-called pre-consumer wastefor our products, i.e. remnants from industrial production, B-goods or decommissioned stocks. Our cuts are developed in such a way that they are completely waste-free or low-waste reducing work steps and details to the essentials . We not only reduce waste and save emissions, but also save costs. This saving helps us, on the one hand, to survive as a small, locally producing company and, on the other hand, we can offer you limited small series and handicrafts at reasonable prices.
We see our work as a platform for critical exchange and educationWe still lack information that you might have, and we can already explain some things. Other topics are worth discussing. For example we are happy to provide you with explanations on the correct maintenance of your textiles. We start with this: airing is better than washing! And use, for example, Guppybags to wash your mixed fiber and synthetic clothing.
We love direct exchange with customers, neighbours, friends and critics. If it is possible in any way, visit us or one of our retailers. We do operate an online shop, too. We always use recycled paper packaging and carbon offsets for shipping and we are constantly looking for new, better alternatives. We do not offer free returns, neither we nor our planet can afford that. Please read our product descriptions carefully and contact us if you have any questions or doubts about the fit. Justified complaints are not affected by this, in this case please contact us.
There is no rubbish in nature, everything gets recycled, everything dead serves as a raw material for something new. Reusing the old is almost always more resource-efficient than making it new. However, there is still a lot of catching up to do in textile recycling - above all because fiber mixtures are difficult to split up, and secondly because quality often decreases with each recycling process. Our focus at the moment is on avoiding waste and we will develop a return and upcycling model for EDO in the future. We work closely with young research projects for surface upcycling and established recycling companies to develop solutions for the future . In this respect, we never see current solutions as complete, but go on a research trip..
It is clear that the growth and overproduction of "sustainable" goods does not solve problems such as the climate crisis, wastefulness, exploitation / injustice and garbage. There is already more than enough clothing in the world and second hand fashion is great. And still, not only we as designers love a few nice new pieces in between. So what should they be like?
We asked ourselves what is the essence of the most worn pieces in our wardrobe, the ones that you can't really put in the wash because you absolutely need them every day. And we wondered what makes up garments that can be shared and passed on.
For us, EDO is the essence of all that. It's unisex, oversized, timeless, practical, has no prints and is versatile to combine.. Our cuts are a reliable modular system with a permanent fit, sizing and cuts. EDO can modestly provide a stage for your personality, but also allows brave outfits. All pieces can be combined with each other and other garments. They are your reliable second skin in a meeting, at a funeral or on a sofa on Sunday. You will never have to worry about your suitcase the day before travelling, never have the wrong things with you again, , never have FUCK-I-DON'T-HAVE-ANYTHING-TO-WEAR-DAYS again - promised!.
EFFICIENCY + FAIRNESS
We want to work, to pay our living and we want that to be possible for everybody. This includes independence, security and satisfaction at work and a fair salary, i.e. at least Living Wage. In the fashion industry, wage costs are less than 1% of the MSRP and are still being pushed down. Workers, the environment and quality suffer from this. Meanwhile most of the sales price goes to marketing, transportation, profits, taxes, etc.
We cut costs through immediacy. We love regular customers and word of mouth. We love DIY and lo-fi websites. We make pants from 7 pieces, whereas a classic pair of jeans needs over 60. We don't actually have any restricting sizes, just different versions of oversized. We have no overproduction because our editions are limited by nature and our products will still be up to date in one year. We produce ourselves, with local tailors or with long-term partners with high standards of work in Europe and Turkey. In most cases, each product comes entirely from one source, from fabric (remaining stock in the sewing room warehouse) to the finished garment.
We offer our basic collection as a white label for business customers - sharing is caring.
And finally, we keep repeating our designs - until there is a better solution.
